Our Philosophy: Beyond the Standard
We believe that ethical breeding is an art rooted in science and compassion. Every Cavalier at Elysian is first and foremost a family member — never confined to kennels. Our puppies are raised using Puppy Culture protocols, which include early neurological stimulation, sound desensitization, and exposure to everyday household activities. This results in confident, resilient, and socially intelligent companions who transition seamlessly into their new homes.
But our commitment doesn't stop at socialization. We invest in advanced health screening: OFA cardiac evaluations (including echocardiograms), patella luxation exams, ophthalmologist certifications, and genetic testing for CM/SM (Chiari-like malformation and syringomyelia), episodic falling, and dry eye curly coat syndrome. We share every result transparently with prospective families.
We also limit the number of litters per year to ensure each dam receives optimal care and recovery time. Our breeding dogs live inside our home, sleep on couches, and enjoy daily off-leash adventures. This philosophy has earned us a reputation among veterinarians and fellow breeders as a program that prioritizes longevity and temperament above profit.

Our Journey: From Passion to Purpose
What started as a single Cavalier named "Winston" in 2012 has blossomed into a carefully curated breeding program recognized for integrity. After witnessing the health struggles of poorly bred Cavaliers, founder Emily Hart decided to dedicate her life to changing the breed's future. She partnered with veterinary cardiologists, canine geneticists, and top behaviorists to develop a protocol that prioritizes longevity without sacrificing the breed's iconic sweetness.
Today, Elysian Cavaliers Home is a proud member of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (USA) and adheres to a strict code of ethics. We regularly mentor new breeders and advocate for heart screening in the wider community. Our puppies have gone on to become therapy dogs, agility champions (for fun!), and most importantly, beloved family members across the country.
